Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou is the second in the series "Everyday Saints" as she surely transformed the world just being herself.

This is done on a 12x12 cloth then mounted on a 12x12 frame for hanging.

Maya Angelou was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years.

 

Dr. Angelou first created change in my own young adult life, as she did many, when I read "I know why the caged bird sings." Then it seemed as if she was ever present in my world as a guiding light showing up at many crossroads with perfectly timed messages. How powerful of an energy she had to make such an impact without ever physically meeting or ever being in her presence. It seemed she was forever presenting 'new' old words of wisdom just when I needed them. From hearing the talks as she sat with Malcolm X, to "a letter to my Daughter", to the ever powerful poem and and documentary "And still I rise." she was always with me.

 

Sky is a non-traditional sequin flag (drapo) artist who blends styles, techniques, and her unique interpretations to create one of a kind spiritual art pieces. Each flag depicts the symbol or image of the spirit to which it is devoted and can take anywhere for a few months to years to complete. The flags are sewn into a brilliant mosaic of sequins and beads that create the story of the spirit which they depict. Containing tens of thousands of hand stitched sequins infused with prayer and energy they are beautiful collectables.
